A partnership between the Sheridan Police Department and Gillette Police Department ensures enough law enforcement during larger events in the two cities.

A common practice among sheriff’s offices and police departments in the Cowboy State is the sharing of manpower among the law enforcement agencies allows for better coverage and security during large events.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Sheridan Police Department Chief Travis Koltiska and Captain Tom Ringley said the department works well with the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the Gillette Police Department and the Cheyenne Police Department to ensure safety among the many areas and events that take place during the WYO Rodeo. WYO Rodeo organizers, event planners and fellow law enforcement agencies have met many times over the last year to coordinate Sheridan’s biggest event of the year.

Koltiska told listeners that the ultimate goal of any police department is to provide security for an event and not be forced to issue any citations. The duty of every officer is to provide safety for those taking part in the celebrations.

The Gillette Police Department will be sending four officers to Sheridan this year and the Cheyenne Police Department will once again be providing the city with the DUI processing van to take pressure off of the booking office at the Sheridan County Detention Center.
