The Sheridan Community Land Trust has announced an opportunity to help remove nearly 1.5 miles of old fence to improve wildlife movement, support agricultural use, and care for the landscape.

SCLT is inviting volunteers that can lend a hand for an hour or stay all day to make a lasting difference. Beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, SCLT is inviting volunteers to meet at the Big Goose Natural Area. This project will complete the removal of old fencing around the BGNA and help SCLT move closer to its goal of removing or replacing all fencing on the property to wildlife-friendly standards. SCLT will provide snacks, drinks, fencing pliers, post pullers, and equipment to help remove and roll up wire.

The Land Trust recommends volunteers to bring sturdy shoes, long pants, and work gloves.

Sign up by clicking here. RSVP is recommended but not required.

SCLT is asking volunteers to note the event date is subject to change due to weather or construction-related access restrictions. Any changes will be communicated through SCLT’s website, social media channels, and directly to those who RSVP.

Old barbed wire fence on north Adair Ave. Wire hidden in tall grass. Deer get caught at times.
