Rubber ducky was the one that made race time lots of fun and it helped put some extra green in both a few people’s wallets and to the youth of Sheridan County.

Despite low water levels, there was enough for more than 1-thousand rubber ducks to take over the Big Goose Creek near the Kendrick Park playground, as part of the annual Sheridan Kiwanis Club Duck Derby race event.

More than $4,500 was raised and Jennifer Kahm of the Sheridan Kiwanis explains what that money goes towards.

“We have several different scholarships that we give out throughout the year. Helps fund our Stars of Tomorrow program that we do. We will buy Constitution books for the Junior High to give out to the kids, when they do the Constitution segment of their learning. We help send kids to camps, if they need to get some extra funds to go to camp. We’ve done coat drives. Wherever the money is needed, it goes and it’s for the youth in Sheridan County.”

Prize money was awarded to the first 3 ducks that reached the finish line.

The owners of those 3 ducks were Debbie Richardson, Brendan Webb and Pam Weast.
