The thermometer is expected to climb this weekend in North-Central and Northeast Wyoming, as well as Southeast Montana, and it could reach its highest recorded temperature ever in some places.

The National Weather Service Office in Billings, Montana has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for Sheridan County and Southeast Montana.

The watch is in effect from 6am Saturday (July 11th), until 11:59pm Monday.

Meanwhile, the NWS Office in Riverton, Wyoming has issued the same watch for Johnson County.

That watch is in effect from 12-noon Saturday until 9pm Monday.

Meteorologists say dangerously hot conditions with temperatures between 100 and 110 degrees Fahrenheit are possible, with the warmest day predicted to be Sunday.

Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events.

Extremely hot daytime temperatures combined with warm overnight low temperatures will produce cumulative heat stress, which can become dangerous to anyone without adequate cooling and hydration.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, and stay out of the sun.

Plan outdoor activities during the early morning and late evening hours, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Sunday’s forecasted high temperature in the Sheridan area is 108 degrees.

The highest recorded temperature on record for the Sheridan area is 107, which has happened 4 times, the last in 2021, when it happened in both June and July of that year.

The NWS records temperature readings from the Sheridan County Airport.
