Sheridan Mayor Rich Bridger and Police Chief Travis Koltiska appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss public safety, the parade route, the temporary City Hall closure, parade chair placement and public restrooms.

Beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 10, the parade will begin on North Main Street at Dow Street and travel south to Works Street. The route will then turn west onto Works Street before turning north onto Brooks Street. The parade will end at Brooks and Dow streets. City Hall will close at 10 a.m. and open again at 1 p.m.

Chief Koltiska said the route is the result of careful planning, keeping residents and business owners in mind while also providing more room for paradegoers.

The mayor and police chief recommend paradegoers arrive early, as parking may be limited in the area.

Public restrooms will be located in the Verdello parking lot next to City Hall. The restrooms are connected to water, sewer and electricity and are equipped with paper towels, toilet paper dispensers, soap and hand sanitizer. The city will also provide a family restroom and a baby changing station.

The mayor and police chief reminded residents that chairs may not be placed along the parade route before 5 p.m. Thursday to maintain access for businesses, pedestrians and emergency responders.

They also reminded anyone planning to be downtown Thursday evening not to leave vehicles parked overnight along the parade route or in the pancake breakfast area.

Chief Koltiska said the Sheridan Police Department has also spoken with parade organizers about handing candy directly to children rather than throwing it into the street. In previous years, children have run into the street to retrieve candy, creating dangerous situations around vehicles and horses. This year, float participants will walk along the curb and hand candy to children to help improve safety.
