WYO Rodeo Board President and VP on Rodeo’s growing Popularity
WYO Rodeo Board President Hayden Heaphy and Vice President Jess Sams made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to speak on the year-long planning process of scheduling this elite, Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA)-sanctioned event.
Planning such an event takes time, a dedicated all-volunteer board of directors and an army of volunteers who desire to be a part of one of the nation’s biggest rodeo events.
The popularity of the sport and the draw of the WYO Rodeo for higher performing cowboys and cowgirls has led the board to plan each night’s events with precision to ensure the events keep running smoothly.

The growth in popularity of rodeo as a sport in the nation can be attributed to many reasons; the exposure of Western Culture to a wider audience due to popular television, social media, the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) league and growth of the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) as well as standalone women’s events and championships. Rodeo can now be viewed on television all over the globe due to streaming, earning tens of millions of fans worldwide.
Sams shared his own theory with listeners while thanking Sheridan for making the WYO Rodeo so attractive to some of the best in the sport just by being a welcoming community.

According to the Sheridan WYO Rodeo, the event is now known as one of the top 60 PRCA rodeos in the nation. The multi-day event draws contestants and visitors from all over the world and feeds more than $6 million into Sheridan’s local economy.
Tickets for the WYO Rodeo go fast, Heaphy warned the public to avoid online ticket vendors who purchase and reprice tickets.
