The Sheridan County Conservation District board approved oil disposal agreements with Dayton and Clearmont this week with no changes, but the board may need to rethink the arrangement with the towns next year.

Conservation District Manager Carrie Rogaczewski said oil disposal costs have more than doubled this last year.

She said by way of comparison, the district in 2018 spent $525 to dispose of just over 1,800 gallons of used oil, in 2019 the cost was $377 for 1,300 gallons and so far this year, the cost has been nearly $1,050 for disposal of 1,500 gallons.

The district has had an agreement in place for several years to maintain sites in Dayton and Clearmont where people can dispose of used motor oil.

Rogaczewski said the district currently doesn’t charge either town for the disposal costs, although the towns do provide an annual appropriation to help cover expenses. She said the conservation district receives $200 a year from Clearmont and $500 from Dayton.
