SCSD#3 Listening Session Held on Profile of a Graduate
Around 20 area people attended the latest listening session held on April 29 at Arvada-Clearmont School. The main topic of discussion was the Profile of a Graduate.
A/C Board of Trustees Chairman Kelly Little thanked everyone for attending, and said that the listening sessions allows the board to hear from the public in a more open context than the limited public comments in our public meetings.
She then turned the floor over to Superintendent Chase Christensen who explained what the Profile of a Graduate is.

He said that the school began discussions on what the school and community wanted a graduate to know.
He said that having to incorporate all seven tenets of the profile need not be done in the 2027 year graduation. SCSD#3 will start small and gradually add all seven to the graduation requirements.

He said this has been discussed with staff as to which tenet is most important for the students to know before they graduate.
He said the staff considered both tenet three, which is learning to communicate effectively, and tenet seven, which is time management and work habits. The staff made the decision to focus on tenet three.

Jennifer Betz, assistant principal at A/C School, said that since she transitioned into the assistant principal’s job, as well as being a part of the work-based learning program and job coach,
The staff and community gave input on the idea of concentrating on number three. Many speakers talked about how valuable FFA was to help students learn to communicate effectively, and some felt the Amazing Shake was very helpful for students. The one concern was how students would prove that they are proficient in the skills, and that is being worked on by the school.
Christensen said he was sure that within a few years all of the tenets would be required to graduate. And the graduates will have to demonstrate their knowledge of the basis tenets.
He added that there are 11 graduates in the year’s senior class, and Clearmont will have a 100% graduation rate again this year.
