CASA seeking volunteers to speak for children in court system

Published

The Court Appointed Special Advocate program through Compass Center for Families works to support children involved in the juvenile court system due to abuse or neglect by providing trained volunteer advocates.

Compass Center for Families Executive Director Tiffany Resser and Marketing Coordinator Aundrea McKenzie appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to speak on this vital role in the community.

Volunteers do not need experience in the courtroom, McKenzie said, as Compass recruits, trains, supports and supervises community members who serve as advocates for children.

CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to represent the best interests of children from birth through age 21 and remain with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home.

Resser said in Sheridan and Johnson counties, there is always a need for these selfless individuals.
