SO and WYG&F team up for Hunter Education

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department and the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office are partnering to expand hunter education opportunities in Sheridan County after several deputies recently completed instructor training.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Sheridan County Sheriff Levi Dominguez said five deputies, along with himself, completed the Wyoming Game and Fish Hunter Education Instructor Course to help address a local need for more certified instructors and classes.

Dominguez said conversations with local parents and attempting to get his own son into a course showed him the need for local hunter education instructors. So he sent out an email to deputies and asked if anyone would be interested in joining him in becoming instructors but the SO then became busy with duties concerning the Elk Fire.

Once they had the opportunity, the Sheriff sent an email to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

Many of the deputies are avid hunters, anglers and outdoorsmen who want to pass along safe and ethical hunting practices to the next generation.

The Sheriff’s Office plans to host a hunter education course before the fall hunting season and aims to offer at least three courses annually, with the potential for more depending on demand.

The Sheriff said the effort will help improve access to training for the region’s young men and women while promoting responsible hunting and outdoor safety across the community.
