The Museum at the Bighorns is hosting Voices and Votes: Democracy in America exhibit, which will include a featured presentation by historian Kylie McCormick from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16 at the museum in downtown Sheridan.

Museum at the Bighorns Director Carrie Edinger and Operations Manager Chip King spoke on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse about the presentation, titled “Fifty-One Years of Freedom: Wyoming’s Suffrage Story, 1869–1920”.

According to Edinger, McCormick’s presentation will explore Wyoming’s historic role as the first U.S. territory to grant women the right to vote and examine what led to and how that decision helped shape the national movement decades later.

The program is part of the museum’s effort to connect local history to national themes of democracy and civic participation within the Voices and Votes: Democracy in America exhibit, on loan from the Smithsonian Museum, which is available to view at the museum through June 13.

Edinger and King have developed multiple interactive displays and activities to keep even the youngest members of the family engaged and entertained while learning about the nation’s core values and citizen responsibility.
