Business on Broadway Street rally to create new event, May Day on Broadway

Local businesses from Sheridan’s Broadway Street downtown are inviting the community to celebrate spring during the May Day on Broadway event set for Friday, May 1.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Expressions owner Wanda Kerns and Epiphany owner Danae Brandjord, said they organized the event as a way to bring residents together in kindness and highlight local shops. Kerns said the event originates from a tradition celebrated by her family, the May Day Basket.

May Day Baskets are a tradition that started in the late 19th century in which small baskets filled with flowers, treats, or sweets are secretly left on neighbors’ or loved ones’ doorknobs.

Brandjord said activities will take place along Broadway and are expected to include in-store specials, promotions and opportunities for visitors to explore participating businesses.

The pair say the goal is to create a fun, welcoming atmosphere that encourages community engagement while supporting small businesses during the spring season.

The event is 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Friday, May 1 and is open to the public and designed for all ages. Community members are encouraged to visit downtown, take part in the festivities and connect with local retailers. Learn more by clicking here
