The Brinton Museum Receives Grant from Terra Foundation
The Brinton Museum has received a $75,000 grant from the Terra Foundation for American Art in support of The Unfinished War: The Battle of the Little Bighorn in Native American Art, on view April 17 through September 14, 2026.
This major exhibition presents Native perspectives—historic and contemporary—on the Battle of the Little Bighorn, offering a powerful reframing of one of the most mythologized events in American history. Through works spanning generations, The Unfinished War centers Native voices rooted in lived experience, cultural memory, and visual testimony.
“We are deeply grateful to the Terra Foundation for American Art for their generous support of this exhibition,” said Curatorial Director Jochen Wierich. “This funding allows us to present an exhibition of significant scope and importance, amplifying Native perspectives and expanding public understanding of this pivotal moment in history.”
Support from the Terra Foundation helps the exhibition and its related public programming possible, further expanding engagement with its themes of history, memory, and Indigenous perspectives.
TheUnfinishedWaris presented in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of the Battle of the Little Bighorn and is a cornerstone of The Brinton Museum’s 2026 theme, Our Legends.
