The City of Sheridan is inviting residents to take part in the annual Community Cleanup and Trees for Trash event Saturday, May 2, aimed at improving neighborhoods and public spaces across the city.

City Councilman Greg Luhman said the city has been preparing and announced the species of tree that will be featured this year, while supplies last.

City officials say volunteers will gather to collect litter from parks, pathways and other areas, while residents can take advantage of a free landfill disposal day for eligible items.

Luhman said volunteer groups have made major impacts in years past and residents can join this year’s effort. He also reminded residents that some items need to be handled by professionals at the city landfill and do not qualify for the free day. Items containing Freon, tires and commercial waste are not eligible for the free disposal day. Those interested in forming a team can contact Recycling and Solid Waste Coordinator Seliena Parker at 674-8461.

Organizers say the event encourages community pride and environmental stewardship, building on past efforts that brought together dozens of volunteers to remove hundreds of pounds of waste from local areas.
