Sheridan Woman Arraigned on Multiple Drug Charges

The arrest of Shannon Nesheim by law enforcement in January was the result of an investigation by the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation into a methamphetamine distribution ring in Sheridan County. Nesheim allegedly sold methamphetamine to a confidential informant during a controlled buy that was conducted by DCI agents.

At an arraignment hearing Thursday in District Court, Nesheim pleaded not guilty to one count of delivery of a controlled substance – methamphetamine; one count of conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance –  methamphetamine; three counts of endangering children for knowingly being in possession of methamphetamine with children present in her home, and one count of misdemeanor marijuana possession. All of the alleged crimes occurred between November 1 of 2025 and January 23, 2026.

District Court Judge Darci Phillips scheduled a three-day, #3 stack jury trial to begin August 10. A pretrial conference will take place July 9 at 9:30 am. Nesheim’s bond was modified from $25,000 cash only to $25,000 cash or surety. If convicted on all six charges, Nesheim faces up to 56 years in prison and fines totaling $66,000.

A change of plea hearing was held Thursday in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan for 53-year-old Colt Owen, who is charged with felony theft for allegedly stealing from his employer, Buckhorn Travel Plaza in Ranchester. The alleged criminal activity occurred between July of 2023 and October of 2023. Owen, pursuant to the terms of a plea agreement reached with the State, pleaded no contest to the charge at Thursday’s hearing. The plea agreement recommends a sentence of 3 to 5 years in prison, suspended in favor of three years of supervised probation. Owen must also pay $8,600 in restitution to the victim before the probationary period is up.

District Court Judge Ben Kirven ordered that a presentence investigation report be completed by the Department of Corrections Division of Probation and Parole and said sentencing would be set approximately 75 days from now. Owen’s bond was continued under the same terms and conditions that were previously set in Sheridan County Circuit Court.
