The Buffalo City Council passed their budget Ordinance on third and final reading during their meeting this week with no changes to the budget from the initial first reading.

The budget, as discussed during the first reading, was a difficult process due to local governments having significantly lower revenue streams this year to fund themselves.

The city’s budget for Fiscal year 2020-2021 was set at just under $13 million, with nearly half of that amount in capital improvement projects.

Six Million dollars has been set for Capital Improvements which include $3 million in funding from the special purpose sixth penny sales tax for the Fetterman/Burritt Street Project; $1.8 million for the Buffalo Wells and Transmission Line Project; and $1 million for the Buffalo Business Park.

Funding for these projects came mostly in the form of grants.

Additionally, the city’s General Fund portion is roughly $4 million, with an additional $3 million generated from Enterprise Funds.

According to discussions during the readings in the past few weeks, the council is expecting to amend the budget in the coming months as needed as the economic picture for state and local governments becomes clearer.
