9-11 Ceremony at A-C School

On Thursday, September 11, at 8 a.m., the Arvada-Clearmont School held their annual 9-11 Patriot Day ceremony.

The ceremony was to honor the memory of those who died on Sept. 11, 2001, when a terrorist attack took down the twin towers in New York, 24 years ago today.

The 9-11 attacks left 2,977 dead. That total included the 2,753 who died in New York, 184 people at the Pentagon and 40 people who died when Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania.

Included in the ceremony were several selections of patriot music by the Arvada-Clearmont Band, including American the Beautiful, My Country ‘Tis of Thee, and the Star-Spangled Banner.

Although the plan was to have Army Veteran Mike Guyer raise the flag, since the flag was already raised, and it was at half-mast, Guyer talked about the proper way of raising and lowering the U.S. flag.

Students Jorgen Michelena, Abby Miller and Skye Malli each read a bit of the history of the 9-11 attack. First reader was Malli, who talked about the events on the morning of 9-11, 2001.

The entire school attended the ceremony, and at the end everyone shook hands with Army Veteran Mike Guyer and thanked him for his service.
