National Work Zone Awareness Week

Wyoming Department of Transportation Senior Public Relations Specialist for District 4, Laura Dalles, has announced that the week of April 20-24 is National Work Zone Awareness Week. 

According to the American Traffic Safety Services Association, National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) is an event that takes place across the United States, with partnerships between state departments of transportation (DOT), national road safety organizations, government agencies, private companies and individuals.

The week is set aside to raise awareness of the need for more caution when driving through work zones to decrease fatalities and injuries as well as establish and promote a uniform set of safety tips and promote these tips.

To stand in solidarity with these critical employees, members of the public can show support by wearing orange on Go Orange Day, Wednesday, April 22. This day encourages everyone to wear orange to show support for roadway safety, honoring those killed or injured in work zone crashes.

The public can also show support by slowing down and following posted speed limits in all work zones. 

The American Traffic Safety Services Association states that in 2024, nearly 170 pedestrians(including construction, maintenance, and utility workers) and pedalcyclists were killed in work zones.
