Roy Lindberg (Bud) Olson, of Sheridan, Wyoming passed away on September 16th, 2023 with his wife Viola by his side.
Bud was born to Guy Alvin Olson and Eva Katherine Johnson on November 21, 1927, at their home in Banner, Wyoming. He grew up on his parent’s ranch with his two brothers and two sisters and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1947.
Bud married Betty Bassett in 1950. Together they had three children and enjoyed life in Sheridan. That same year, he joined the US Marine Corps to humbly serve his country. He was later awarded the Korean Service Medal, a Purple Heart, and the United Nations Medal for his service. Betty passed away in 1973.
Bud married Viola Morris in 1981, after faithfully courting her for several years. Bud and Vi spent 42 years together, enjoying their combined families and traveling the world.
For many years, he cared for and cut hay at the Banner ranch where he was born. His family loved to come to the ranch and share a picnic lunch while he took a quick rest in the shade on those long, hot days.
In his career, Bud carried mail in rain and shine for the US Postal Service for 28 years. He also delivered his smiling face, enormous laugh, and kind words through the streets of Sheridan. He continued his long walks after his retirement well into his 80s and walked tens of thousands of miles in his lifetime.
Bud loved people. He loved to fish. And he loved the Lord. He was one of the most joyous and grateful people you could ever meet and will be deeply missed.
Bud is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Betty Olson; his siblings Irene, Florence, Walt, and Sonny; his son David Olson; and his grandson Tucker William Galloway. Bud is survived by his wife, Viola Olson; children Katherine Neal, Stephen Olson, and Linda (Lou) Galloway; his grandchildren Amanda (Jared) Robertson, Steve Olson, Stephanie Olson, Cameo Galloway, Casey (Brad) Hart, and Nathan (Kate) Galloway; and his many great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Bud’s life will take place Friday, September 22 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sheridan, where Bud served as an elder. Reverend Paul J. Cain is officiating. Interment will follow at Willow Grove Cemetery in Buffalo, Wyoming.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Martin Luther Grammar School (1300 W 5th Street, Sheridan WY 82801), where they teach Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic with Christ at the Center. Champion Funeral Home has been entrusted with local arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.championfh.com

Roy was our landlord in Banner for 7 years . He was always good to us, and I have fond memories of his home and my time there with my late husband.
