Garry Marvin King, 85, passed away on Monday, June 8th, 2026, at Ft. Mackenzie VA hospital, in Sheridan, Wyoming, following a courageous battle with cancer.  Garry was born on Oct. 21, 1940, to Forest and Francis (Lomica) King, in Pierre, SD.  As a child he was educated in Capa, SD and then Blunt, SD, where he was a standout on the basketball team.  He graduated High School a year early, in 1958.  He joined the Army in 1962 and was stationed in Ft. Belvoir, VA, where he served as a member of the Honor Guard and was part of the 3rd Missile Battalion Championship Basketball team.  He was Honorably Discharged in summer of 1964.  He returned to South Dakota, where he went to work for Ferding Electric.  He married Kay Adams, on Jan. 23, 1965.  They had 3 daughters in Pierre, before moving to Sheridan, WY in May of ’72.   He worked for Mike’s Electric for a few years before going to work at Decker Coal Company.  He was at Decker Coal for almost 20 years, until he and Kay started their company, Majestic Electric, in 1994, where they worked together until their retirement in 2004.

Garry always enjoyed any time spent in the Big Horn Mountains, whether hiking, camping, hunting, skiing, motorbiking or snowmachining.  He loved his mountains and built his dream home with the perfect view of Cloud Peak.   He loved popping in at school lunch when his girls were young, and then again when his grandkids were school aged.  He was a faithful fan of his grandkids’ activities, and was often seen at sporting events, concerts, awards ceremonies, or wherever his grandkids were doing their thing.  He was fortunate enough to be able to hike the Dingle Peninsula of Ireland, and he and Kay traveled to Italy where they enjoyed Rome, Florence and Venice.  They also enjoyed several trips around the US with Kay’s sisters and their husbands.  He was always very proud of his involvement with manning an aid station for many summers, for the Big Horn Mountain Trail Run with his buddy Greg.  They packed supplies by horseback and on foot and manned a remote station through the night, for a 100-mile race.

Garry leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Kay, their daughters, Lisa (Shawn) O’Dell, Angela (Matt) Brennan and Kerry King.  He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Dan (Jamai), Morgan (Josh), Rebecca, Kelsey (Brandon), Erica (Skyler), Kate (April), William (Brittany), Allison (DJ), Dylan and Shelby (Mariah) and 9 great-grandchildren.  He also leaves his brothers and sisters-in-law and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and all 7 of his siblings and their spouses, Bud (Dona), Dorrie (David), Bob (Dixie), Lowell (Thelma), Chuck (Helen), Mary Ellen (Gary) and Marilyn.  He was also preceded by his grandson Justin, his great grandson Danny, his in-laws, Vern and Hazel Adams, sister-in-law Maxine, 4 nieces and 1 nephew.

A Celebration of Garry’s Life will be held Monday, June 15th, 2026, at Holy Name Catholic Church, 260 E. Loucks St., Sheridan, WY, at 10:30 am, luncheon to follow in the Parish Hall.
