Galen Jean (Seibel) (Baker) Tipton, 93, passed away on June 20, 2026 at Westview Health Care Center in Sheridan, WY.  At her request, no services will be held.  Her wish is to be inurned with her daughter Lori in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Big Horn, Wyoming.

Galen was born March 25, 1933 to Jacob (Jake) Seibel and Esther (Nagel) Seibel in Wheatland, WY.  The family lived in Wheatland and Galen went to the first and second grades in a one room school near their home.  In 1939 the family moved to Lingle, WY where she attended school, was selected to Girls’ State and graduated as Salutatorian in 1951.

In June 1951 Galen married Ross Baker.  They farmed and ranched west of Lingle and Galen was a stay-at-home mom to five children.   Ross also taught in the Lingle and Ft. Laramie school systems.  In 1968 the family moved to Riverton, WY where Ross was Assistant County Agent in Fremont County. During this time, Galen started her own business selling Merle Norman cosmetics.  In 1970 Ross transferred to Sheridan as the County Agent for Sheridan County.

Ross and Galen lived near Big Horn, WY and during this period Galen worked for the USDA for fifteen years. Galen was an accomplished singer and sang for many weddings, funerals, and other occasions.  She was also a very talented artist and her paintings are treasured by her family.  Her painting of Blacktooth in the Big Horn Mountains was selected as the 1982 Congressional Winner, which was then displayed in U.S. Senator Malcolm Wallop’s office in Washington, D.C.  The painting was framed with a barn wood frame constructed by Ross.

Galen continued living in Big Horn after Ross’ untimely death in 1988.   In 1997 she married Lynn Tipton.  They lived in Dayton, WY until 2002 when they moved to Sheridan.

Galen was a very giving person who volunteered in the surgical waiting room at Sheridan Memorial Hospital, was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary Board, and also delivered meals for the Senior Center.  Galen was steadfast in her faith and her love of God, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Galen’s beloved daughter Lori passed away in 1984, Ross in 1988, Lynn in 2021, and her son Jerry in 2022.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; her treasured sister Barbara Ochsner and brother-in-law Jack Ochsner; niece Kayleen Ochsner; and by her very good friend Richard Harris.

She is survived by her daughter Jody Nipps (George Rogers); her granddaughter Amy (Tim) Githens and great-grandchildren Emma Githens and Will Githens; her daughter Julie Baker (Dave Bliss); her granddaughter Britnee (Joe) Wood and great-grandchildren Caswell Wood, Deana Wood, and Leah Wood; her daughter Kim (Rick) Scherry; her granddaughter Erin (Brandan) Strahan and great-grandchildren Avey Strahan and Crew Strahan; her granddaughter Annie (Alek) Torres and great-

grandchildren Reland Sterling and Remi Sterling.  Galen also has many lifelong friends who survive her.
