Peggy Ann Gable
Peggy Ann Gable of Sheridan passed away peacefully on Monday, May 11, 2026, at her home. She was born on July 10, 1932, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to George and Margaret Mood. She spent her childhood there and graduated from Dallastown High School in 1950. She married her high school sweetheart John Phillip Gable in York, Pennsylvania in July 1955. They enjoyed a long life together for 64 years. John passed away in January 2019.
Their early family life together included living in Neubrücke, Germany where John was stationed during military service. In 1960 John left the US Army and started work for Peter Kiewit Sons’, moving Peggy and the young family to Niagara Falls, New York. They continued with Kiewit until John retired in 1985, having spent time in Omaha, Nebraska; Hudson Hope, BC Canada; and finally in 1970 coming to settle permanently in Sheridan. Wherever they might be, Peggy developed close and lasting friendships.
After retirement, Peggy and John were blessed with opportunities for travel including Europe, Africa, South America, and Asia. They enjoyed recounting their travel experiences and presenting trip photos to family and friends. However, they enjoyed nothing more than the Big Horn Mountains with gatherings at the family cabin both winter and summer. She was an avid flower gardener, an accomplished quilter, and she excelled at other crafts. Her quilts, especially, are now treasured family heirlooms.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and husband. She is survived by daughters Elizabeth (Mark) Hepworth of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Janice (John) Fleming of Sheridan; son Wayne (Pamela) Gable of Sheridan; eight grandchildren: Neil Hepworth, Daniel Hepworth, Rachael (Hepworth) Simmerman, Ian Fleming, Eric Fleming, Luke Fleming, Andrea (Gable) Johnson, and Adam Gable; nine great-grandchildren: Claire Gable, Ty Gable, Dally Johnson, Emmi Johnson, Alton Hepworth, Thomas Hepworth, Margaret Hepworth, Jordan Simmerman, and Hannah Simmerman.
Peggy was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheridan. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 135 Crescent Dr., Sheridan, WY 82801. Online condolences may be made to www.sheridanfuneral.com. Arrangements are under the care of Sheridan Funeral Home.
