Born under a Wand’rin Star, L. Dennis Irvin of Story, Wyoming found his star on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

He was the eldest of four children, born on June 8, 1949, in Williamsburg, PA to Jesse W. and Margaret E. (Farringer) Irvin.

Dennis graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1967, where he was a letter winner in football, basketball and baseball.   He attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, earning a Bachelor of Science in Social Science, a Masters of Education, and a Masters of Arts in Industrial and Labor Relations.

He taught history, geography and economics at Indiana High School, in Indiana, PA from 1971 until his retirement in 1994.  During his years in education, he was active in the teachers’ association and served as chief negotiator for three multi-year contracts.  Dennis was also a high school football official, officiating games in both Pennsylvania and Wyoming.

In 1994, he began his real estate career with Balkenbush Real Estate in Sheridan, Wyoming.   In 2003, he and his wife Sherri opened Story Realty, in Story, Wyoming, which they operated until retiring in 2017.

Dennis enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, Civil War history, golf and solving especially difficult crossword puzzles.  He loved watching for the elk herd to come over the saddle of the Big Horns, sharing his style of humor, talking over a good drink and watching The Griswolds every Christmas.  An avid Penn State football fan, he relished raising the flag after every victory.   He enjoyed a good one liner, and one of his most recent favorites was, “If your gonna talk, talk. If you gonna shoot, shoot”.

He is survived by his sons, Nathan B. Irvin (Shannon) of Huntingtown, Maryland and their children Mason, Braden and Colton; and Jesse A. Irvin of Frederick, Maryland, and his children Rylan and Adley; his first wife, Judy (Unglaub) Bath; brothers Gary Irvin (Charlotte) and Kevin Irvin, both of Williamsburg, PA; sister Kim Doolittle (Rob) of Kalamazoo, Michigan and wife, Sherri W. Hickman of Story, Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved furry friend, Mr. Stumpy and a great group of friends.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at St. Vincent’s Healthcare in Billings, Montana for the compassionate care they provided during his final days. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dennis’s honor to the Story Volunteer Fire and Rescue or the Williamsburg High School Football Program in Williamsburg, PA.
