Steven Todd Nance was born on June 16, 1971, in Cody, Wyoming. His parents are Jess and Kathleen Nance. He grew up and went to school in Big Horn, Wyoming, graduating from Big Horn High School in 1988. He and his wife Karla began their life together in 2014 in Gillette, Wyoming and eventually married on January 3, 2021.
Steve spent his life working hard during the week and living for the weekends when he and Karla would head up the mountain with their dog Skooter. In his younger years, he loved riding motorcycles and snowmachining, but in these last several years, nothing made him happier than being on a 4-wheeler beside his wife (and Skooter) exploring the trails, camping, and finding peace in the quiet of Big Horn Mountains. They made friends along the way, and all summer long you could find them somewhere up Highway 16 on the Buffalo side, moving between the campgrounds they loved. They went every weekend they possibly could, counting down the days until they could get back up there, and waiting all winter for the moment the snow melted enough to return. The mountain was his place of freedom and joy, and that’s where he felt most himself.
Steve loved his family, no matter how busy life was, he always made time to call his mom and those talks meant the world to him. His pride-in-joys were his daughter, step-children and his beautiful granddaughters, Ellie, Livia (Peanut), Brynlee and Kaislee all of Sheridan. Steve is survived by his wife Karla Nance and their dog Skooter of Gillette; his parents Jess and Kathy Nance of Buffalo; his daughter Karissa Miech-Voldberg and her husband Cody of Sheridan; one step-son Josh Pederson of Payson, AZ; one step-daughter, Korrina Holwell and her husband Tristen also of Sheridan; three brothers, Dean Scott and his wife Linda of Gillette, J.B. Nance and his wife Meredith of Castle Rock, Colorado, and Ted Anderson of Parachute, Colorado; two sisters, Dixie Scott-Marshall and her husband John of Buffalo and Tami Clarke and her husband Kent of Wessington, South Dakota; four grandchildren Ellie, Livia (Peanut), Brynlee and Kaislee of Sheridan; two nieces Christina and Kasey of Gillette; one nephew Cody of Gillette; all who he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
