Built by the Sheridan Land Company and funded in part by the Burlington Missouri Railroad in 1892, the Sheridan Inn opened in the spring of 1893. Since that day, the Sheridan Inn has played an important role in Sheridan, especially for visitors to the area.

Many Sheridan locals know of the legend of Miss Kate Arnold, who worked at the Inn for 64 years. In 1909 she moved into the Inn and lived there until 1965, and only relocating when she was told the Inn was to be torn down. Luckily, the hotel was not demolished. Arnold had a small flower garden, where she picked flowers for the Inn’s tables. Now, it is said she haunts the establishment.

Many residents have stories of odd happenings, objects moving by some unseen force, bumps and steps in the night.

A senior research student attending the University of Wyoming, Debbie Cobb, is taking a closer look at paranormal experiences at historic Wyoming hotels.

Cobb has chosen five separate locations within the Cowboy State to study paranormal stories, one of those sites is the Sheridan Inn.

Cobb is currently in search of those who have had paranormal experiences in the Sheridan Inn. Participants must consent to a short interview regarding their experience, either in person or via teleconference technology. Those who wish to participate must also be over the age of 18.

Interested parties can contact Cobb via email at dcobb3@uwyo.edu. The project is being supervised by Dr. Kenneth Hanson. Questions can also be sent to Hanson at khanson17@uwyo.edu

Other sites selected by Cobb are the Historic Occidental Hotel in Buffalo, The Virginian in Medicine Bow, The Irma Hotel in Cody and The Plains Hotel in Cheyenne.
