Susan “Sue” Ann Hendrickson, 71, passed away on March 22, 2026, in Buffalo, Wyoming, following a brief illness. A woman defined by her kindness and her infectious laugh, Sue’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Born on August 12, 1954, Sue was the first child of George and “Boots” Hendrickson. Growing up alongside her brother, Lee, she attended schools in Demersville, Hot Springs, and Kalispell, Montana. Sue graduated from Flathead High School in 1973 as part of the first class of girls allowed into the FFA program. Her passion for the Western lifestyle shone through as a member of the rodeo club—where she qualified for State—and during the several years she spent showing cattle at the National Western Stock Show in Denver.

On April 27, 1974, Sue married Russell Smith, and together they had two children, JT and Trinity. Though they later divorced, Sue’s journey eventually led her to Arizona. She worked at various title companies and the horse racing track Turf Paradise. Her heart, however, remained with her family, drawing her to Buffalo, Wyoming, to be closer to her children and grandchildren. In Buffalo, she was a familiar and friendly face at the CO-OP and later at the Wyoming Highway Patrol Port of Entry, where she served until her retirement.

Sue had a rare gift for connection. Her unique insight and genuine kindness allowed her to build deep, lasting friendships throughout her life. Whether through a helping hand or her unmistakable laugh, she made the world a warmer place.

Sue was preceded in death by her mother, Boots, and her nephew, Samuel Hendrickson. Her legacy lives on through her father, George Hendrickson of Kalispell; her brother, Lee (Judy) Hendrickson of Hyrum, UT; her son, JT (Kirsten) Smith of Kalispell; and her daughter, Trinity (Michael) of Buffalo. She was the proud grandmother of Baileigh, Michaela, Layne, and Gunnar, and the doting great-grandmother of Tait, Tegun, Hayzen,

Trygg, and a baby boy expected soon. She is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Friday, April 3rd, at 10:00 AM at Harness Funeral Home with Father Bryce Lungren officiating. A graveside service will follow at Willow Grove Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a light repast at the American Legion Hall following the interment to celebrate Sue’s life.

Donations in Sue’s memory may be made to the St. Francis Animal Shelter at 109 Flat Iron Drive, Buffalo Wyoming 82834, honoring her lifelong love for animals. Online condolences may be made at www.harnessfuneralhome.com.
