Robert Hirsche
Robert Dwight Hirsche 74 of Sheridan passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 30, 2026 following a long battle with cancer. He was born in Lethbridge Albert Canada on September 19, 1951 to Leo and Dorothy (Crewe) Hirsche. His family moved to the US when he was six years old. He grew up in California and graduated from Fall River High School in 1969.
Bob began working at sawmills in 1970 and chose the profession of sawfiler. This led him to move to Aberdeen WA where he met his future partner in life. He married Laura (Brooks) on August 8, 1982 and began a 44 year journey of love and adventure. They moved to Sheridan in 1984 where Bob worked at Wyoming Sawmills until it closed in 2008. Not one to sit idle, Bob took up a new career as a groundskeeper for the Sheridan Country Club. He thought of this as his dream job as he was outside with a view of the mountains as he worked. Also, in this time he became a US citizen, which he was immensely proud of. When the Country Club closed, he went to work for SCSD2 as a groundskeeper before transitioning to custodian. He landed at Highland Park Elementary until his retirement in 2019.
Bob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved doing all things familywhether it be taking road trips, walks, bike riding or doing things at home. He was an avid hiker and gardener. After retirement he discovered his love of creating street art. It was amazing the imagination he had in using recycled materials to make such unique pieces. He also had a lifetime passion for music. It made for some grand adventures for him and Laura to see the country.
He is survived by his wife Laura, daughter Kristy Kola, granddaughters Alexis (David) Anderson, Jordyn Scheckla, great-grandkids Jackson and David Walker, Kevin Scheckla and Lochlyn Neel all of Sheridan. A sister Shirly (Ron) Plumhof of Burney CA, a brother Curt (Dana) Hirsche of Caldwell ID and numerous nieces and nephews.

I had the pleasure of working with bob for many years at sheridan sawmills. It was always a pleasure working with bob whenever our jobs intertwined.. plus as a neighbor we talked many times when he was out walking around the neighborhood. he was a good man. My condolences to his wife and family.

My daughter and I met Bob and Laura at Coffee Talk. They were the nicest people and had a wonderful attitude about life. We are so sorry to hear of his passing.

What a great man, I was sad to see his passing. I had the pleasure of working with Bob for a short time at UPS. It was a short stint but he made a big impact on me during that time. Easy going and loving life. I was honored to cross paths and be influenced by his character.

I was incredibly fortunate to work with Bob twice during our time with the school district. First on the grounds crew and later at Highland Park Elementary, when I was student teaching and he was a custodian. I always enjoyed our conversations, which ranged from New Orleans jazz performers to his time living in Washington State. I always admired how Bob treated everyone he met with kindness, and he always had a great story to tell. During my student teaching, Bob would always ask how my day was going, and I looked forward to our conversations. Bob was truly one of a kind, and I feel fortunate to have known him.
