Roxanne Penney

Roxanne Penney – a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend – passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 71, surrounded by her cherished family in her Sheridan home. Born on June 6, 1955, in Fort Bragg, California, Roxanne lived a life rich in love, adventure, and resilience.

Roxanne was the second oldest and first-born daughter of Emil and Darlene (Davies) Hein. Her parents, along with her first husband, Keith Penney, predeceased her, but their memories continued to inspire her throughout her life.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Daniel Olson, and her siblings Clint (Judy) Hein, Susan Hyatt, Curt (Teri) Hein, Trina (Dave) Phillips, Jean (Jonathan) Helf, and Colin (Dorrie) Hein.

Her children, Paul Penney, Sabrina (Lannie) Geist, and Autumn (Gene) Kirkwood also survive her alongside her grandchildren, Jade Stanley, Myranda Penney, Shailah Geist, Tristen Geist, Paige Kirkwood, Kane Kirkwood, and Roxanna Kirkwood.

Her legacy also continues through her great-grandchildren, Jasper Adsit, Desdemona Sickler, Tatum Stanley, and Jaxon Sickler.

Roxanne was fortunate to experience two profound loves in her lifetime. She married Keith Penney on June 15, 1972, and together they built a family and many successful businesses. After Keith’s passing in 2009, Roxanne found love once more with Daniel Olson, marrying him on July 24, 2020.

An avid learner, Roxanne excelled in all her pursuits. She graduated from Dubois High School at an early age following her move to Wyoming after a childhood spent in Canada. She furthered her education with mail-in courses to enhance her business acumen, which served her well in her entrepreneurial endeavors. After moving to Sheridan, she returned to college with her granddaughters and proudly earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Networking.

Roxanne and Keith were pioneers in the log home industry, starting with Penney Wood in the 70s which later became Western Log Homes until it’s closure in the 2010s, with ARK Woodworks running beside it. They also ran Dry Creek Outfitting from the 80s to the 90s.

Her tenacity and skill were evident as she juggled roles from throwing house logs to camp cooking and tending bar, all while winning numerous packhorse races through the 80s and 90s.

In Sheridan, she embraced new challenges, honing her computer skills and working as a transport driver and bus dispatcher until her retirement earlier this year.

Roxanne enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, relishing in gardening, fishing, and exploring the outdoors. She was knowledgeable about native Wyoming flora and an expert in edible vegetation. Her mind was always active, finding joy in Sudoku and word puzzles.

Roxanne’s warm presence and infectious laughter brightened every room. Her unwavering loyalty, fierce love for her family, and deep faith were the cornerstones of her life, guiding her with grace and strength.

Her family wishes to convey that while Roxanne has completed her earthly journey, she will forever remain in our hearts and is now at peace. In lieu of formal services, family and friends will gather at a later date to celebrate her life and return her spirit to the Wyoming mountains she so dearly loved.

Her legacy of love, resilience, and adventure will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
