$50,000 Cash Bond Set for Sheridan Man Charged With Attempted Voluntary Manslaughter and Aggravated Assault and Battery

A Sheridan man who discharged a firearm multiple times and fired gunshots from inside his home towards the location of where Sheridan Police Officers and his wife were, is being held at the Sheridan County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash only bond. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

Cody Miech’s bond was set at an initial appearance hearing Monday in Sheridan County Circuit Court. Contrary to other media and social media reports, Miech has been charged with one count of attempted voluntary manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault and battery.

The alleged criminal activity occurred on April 26, 2026, and carried over into the early morning hours of April 27 after officers with the Sheridan Police Department responded to a suspicious circumstance call in the 1100 block of Park Drive in Sheridan. According to the affidavit of probable cause, when officers arrived on scene, they encountered a hysterical female, (Miech’s wife) crying out that her husband, (Cody Miech) was manic, possessed a firearm, and was threatening to kill her and her children.

Officers attempted to communicate with Miech and de-escalate the situation through verbal negotiations. Miech briefly exited the residence, but soon went back inside and began firing multiple rounds at officers from an upper-level bedroom of the home. Miech then exited the residence into the driveway, wielding a double-barreled shotgun. After raising the shotgun towards the location of the officers, Miech was shot and collapsed on the driveway. He was treated for his wounds on scene by EMS before being transported to Sheridan Memorial Hospital.

The attempted voluntary manslaughter charge is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Each count of aggravated assault and battery is punishable by not more than 10 years in prison and a fine of not more than $10,000.
