Council Adopts Budget Resolution

The Sheridan City Council, at their regularly scheduled meeting Monday night, addressed the budget for the upcoming fiscal year that begins on July 1. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

Following a public hearing on the budget, the Council approved resolution 23-20, officially adopting the budget for the City for the fiscal year. The budget includes a 9 percent across the board cut in every department and at least a 25 percent cut for external agencies that receive funding from the one-cent optional sales tax. The overall budget that was adopted was in the amount of $40.7 million, with $12.6 million for the general fund. City Interim Administrator Mike Jackson.

Councilman Thayer Shafer proposed an amendment to the budget, that was approved by a vote of 4 to 3, to freeze employee salaries, wages and insurance cost sharing to the current level until changed by the Council and subject to quarterly review.

Other business from the meeting included the introduction of new City Administrator Stuart McRae and approval by the Council of an agreement between the City and Sheridan County School District Two regarding the Sheridan Recreation District.
