Civic Theatre Guild Closes 2025-2026 Season with a Comedic Twist, “The Odd Couple (Female Version)”

The Civic Theatre Guild has announced it will close its 70th season with “The Odd Couple (Female Version)” by Neil Simon.

According to the CTG, the play is set in the 1980s and follows Florence Unger and Olive Madison as mismatched roommates navigating life after Florence’s separation from her husband. What begins as an act of support quickly turns into a clash of personalities, highlighting the humor and tension of their unlikely living arrangement.

Originally written as a male-led story, Simon later adapted the script to feature a predominantly female cast following criticism about the lack of leading roles for women. In this version, the traditional poker night is replaced with an evening of Trivial Pursuit, and the familiar dynamic is reimagined while maintaining the original’s comedic spirit.

The production is co-directed by Kathy Lundberg and Shari Peddicord. This marks Peddicord’s first time directing with the CTG and Lundberg’s second.

“In directing The Odd Couple (Female Version), I was drawn to its brilliant balance of humor and humanity. Beneath the rapid-fire jokes is a story about resilience, friendship, and the ways in which we show up for one another even when we drive each other crazy. This production invites the audience to laugh, reflect, and recognize themselves in the chaos,” Lundberg said.

The production contains content that may not be appropriate for younger audiences, and the CTG recommends patrons under the age of 16 attend with a parent or guardian.

Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. May 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 29 and 30, with matinee performances at 2 p.m. May 17 and 31.

All performances will be held at the Carriage House Theater at 419 Delphi on the grounds of the Trail End State Historic Site.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students, seniors, veterans and active military and are available at the box office of the WYO Performing Arts and Education Center or online at wyotheater.com.
