National Fire Prevention Week runs through Saturday and this year’s theme is addressing lithium-ion battery risks and ways to minimize them. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has more.

Most of the electronics in our homes are powered by lithium-ion batteries. If lithium-ion batteries are not used correctly or if they are damaged, they can overheat and start a fire or explode. Neeson said that lithium-ion batteries should not be discarded in the trash because of the fire hazard they pose, instead they should be taken to the City Landfill for proper disposal.
