Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers won 4 of 5 games during the Memorial Day Weekend to win the Kirby Drube Memorial Round Robin Tournament at Gillette.

The lone loss happened Saturday morning against Bozeman, Montana 2-1.

Avon Barney pitched a complete game 6 innings, striking out 10 in the process.

On Sunday, Sheridan scored 1 in the top of the 7th to beat Jackson 7-6.

In the second game of the day, the Troopers scored 10 in the bottom of 4th to put the mercy rule on Scottsbluff, Nebraska 15-3.

Cael Hamrick had 4 RBI’s to help the cause.

Yesterday, Sheridan scored 6th in the top of 5th to beat Powell 10-1.

In the championship game, the Troopers jumped out to 6-1 lead on Gillette, and held on to win 6-4.

Tyler Riesen was credited for 3 RBI’s.

Sheridan is now 14-10 on the season, and will be back in action this coming Thursday at a tournament at Rapid City.

The next home game is one week from today vs. defending state champion Cheyenne Post 6.


Sheridan HS’s Landrum Wiley Wins Track and Field State Title: One Sheridan High School long distance runner finally won that elusive state championship.

At the Wyoming High School Outdoor Track and Field Meet earlier this month, Landrum Wiley took home 1st place in the 4A boys 3200 meter run, with a time of 9 minutes 38.55 seconds, winning by 2.32 seconds.

That time ended up being the best of the best in all classes.

He also placed 4th in the 4A boys 800 meter run, and was 4th in the 4A Boys Pole Vault.

Wiley says in the 3200 meter race, he was content with hanging around with the leaders and then he decided he wanted it more than they did.

Looking back on his high school career, he adds how he was able to tell that he was improving.

Wiley will continue his track and field career at Black Hills State University.


Tongue River HS’s Chaney Reish Wins Track and Field State Title: It was a lot more than a hop, skip and a jump to a state title for one Tongue River Lady Eagle.

Sophomore Chaney Reish won the 2A Girls Triple Jump event at the Wyoming High School State Track and Field Meet earlier this month.

Her winning jump was 34 feet 9 inches, which she accomplished in the preliminary round and won by more than 4 inches.

She says she got a scare early on in the competition, and talks about how she worked through it, to get her best jump of the year.

Reish also competed on TR’s 4 by 100 meter relay team, 1600 sprint medley relay team and in the high jump.


Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies won 3 of 4 home games over the course of the Memorial Day Weekend.

First up was a 3-game series vs. Philadelphia.

On Friday, Jacob Stallings hit a solo run in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game at 2 and send it into extra innings.

In the bottom of the 11th, Ezequiel Tovar hit an RBI walk off single to help the Rocks win 3-2.

On Saturday, Colorado had a 3-2 lead going into the 9th inning, but then the bullpen allowed the Phillies to score 6 times, and the visitors ended up winning 7-4.

On Sunday, the Rockies would win the rubber game of the series 5-2, scoring all of their runs in the first 2 innings.

Ryan McMahon hit a 2-run home run to aid the cause.

Yesterday, Colorado started a 3-game home series vs. Cleveland with an 8-6 win.

Charlie Blackmon’s 3-run shot was part of 6-run 4th inning.

Game 2 of the 3 game series is tonight starting at 6:40.


NBA Playoffs: The Boston Celtics completed a 4-game sweep of the Indiana Pacers yesterday, winning game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals, 105-102.

Tonight, Dallas will try to complete a 4-game sweep of Minnesota at home in the Western Conference Finals.

Tip off time is scheduled for 6:30.


NHL Playoffs: Last night in the Stanley Cup Western Conference Finals, Dallas would dominate the 3rd period to win game 3 at Edmonton 5-3 and take a 2-1 series lead.

Tonight is Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals, between the New York Rangers and the Florida Panthers.

The puck drops at 6pm.

The Rangers currently lead the series 2-1.
