Morning Sports: September 1, 2026

Sheridan HS Football: Any concerns about the amount of experience that was lost to graduation on the Sheridan High School football team, were quickly laid to rest in last Friday’s 54-10 road beat down of Rock Springs.

A total of seven different Bronc players scored, including one kickoff return just before halftime.

Braxten Crow ended up scoring twice.

Head Coach Jeff Mowry says the team made the most of what experience they had, and it was more than enough.

Mowry’s own son, Bryce, even got in on the action as he would scamper 50 yards to the house, on the first play that he was in on.

Sheridan is scheduled to play their home opener this coming Friday vs. Cheyenne South.

Sheridan College Rodeo: College rodeo practice is underway and the Sheridan College team is back and more plentiful than ever.

Last season, the men qualified a full team to the College National Finals Rodeo.

This season, men and women combined, Coach Bobby Harris says there’s about 67 competitors total, which is about 20 more than this time last year.

He says the one challenge every year that almost every team has to face is that they have to go up against the only 4-year school in the region, which just happens to be popular and somewhat synonymous with rodeo.

Among the returners is Lonnie Dunn who placed 10th this past June at the College National Finals Rodeo.

The first College Rodeo within the Central Rocky Mountain Region is scheduled for the weekend of September 11th, 12th and 13th at Chadron State College in Nebraska.

The Pat Hamilton Memorial Rodeo, hosted by Sheridan College, is scheduled for the weekend of September 25th, 26th and 27th.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost the first game of a 3-game series last night at home vs. Baltimore 2-1.

The Rocks and Orioles are scheduled to play each other again today, beginning at 6:40pm.
