Marshall Hanna

Marshall E. Hanna was born February 10th, 1955 in Augusta, GA, and departed from this world at his home in Sheridan, Wyo. on Tuesday, June 18th, 2024 at the age of 69.  

Marshall was adopted to Earnest L. Hanna and Katherine ‘Kit’ Smith Hanna at 18 months old. He attended Waterloo High School in Atwater, Ohio graduating in 1973, where he excelled in football and set a long-standing school record for hurdles in Track and Field. After high school, Marshall joined the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era of 1974, where he served as a Rifleman and Honor Man. He earned the Rifle Marksman Badge and the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged. 

Marshall was a man of many talents and trades. He achieved his security guard and firearms training from Kent State University, his EMT-1 from Akron General Hospital, and later acquired his Associate in Science from Ohio University. These educational experiences combined with his military service, made him versatile in acquiring various employment opportunities. With a heart for travel and adventure, he used these advantages to log visits to 47 of our 50 states. 

His final destination landed him in Sheridan, Wyoming where he met his best friend and future bride, Linda (Harbel) Hanna. Marshall married Linda in a magical winter wonderland ceremony on New Year’s Eve, 2011 after a 5-year courting. He took Linda’s 3 children as his own in every sense and is remembered fondly as a very loving and gentle man, but also a man of great integrity and discipline. Linda recalls him as “the love of my life.”

Marshall had a humoring quirkiness to him and an easy ability to make people laugh. His honest and gentle ways were equally adored by animals. His uncanny ability to befriend anything with feathers or fur, dubbed him the “Animal Whisperer” by friends and family. 

His other interests included his position as “Custer” for the American Legion 7th Cavalry Drum and Bugle Corp where he also filled in as a Commander of the American Legion Post #7. He was often seen working as a security detail for local dances, rodeos, and various concerts in the area. In his downtime, he enjoyed reading SciFi and indulging as a history ‘buff’. One thing he was most proud of learning, was of his Cherokee heritage later in life, which stemmed from a grandma. 

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Linda Hanna, of Sheridan. Daughters, Kerri Wambolt and Teresa Kenyon, both of Sheridan. A son, Shane Kenyon, of Sheridan. Four grandchildren, Crystal, Kenyon, Chance, Khyann, and 11 great-grandchildren. A sister-in-law, Sara Brunson of South Carolina, and a niece Molly Brunson, also of South Carolina. 

He is preceded in death by, his parents Earnest and ‘Kit’ Hanna. A sister, Carol, and a brother, Donnie. Also his in-laws, Maurice and Clara Harbel.

A Celebration Of Life with a reception on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 4:00 pm at the Big Horn Mountain Eagles Club on Commercial Lane with a reception. Military Honors will be held at 5:30 pm.
