More animals being surrendered due to COVID-19 and tough economic times

The Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter has seen an increase in surrendered animals as COVID-19 grips the region, according to shelter Chief Executive Officer Jill Moriarty.

The coronavirus has taken a toll on the Wyoming economy and all too often families are being forced to lighten their financial commitments. For Moriarty and her team at the shelter, that means more animals are being surrendered and less are being adopted.

During an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Moriarty told listeners that due to tough economic times, many residents are surrendering their furry friends because they can no longer feed them. But, Moriarty and her team at the Dog and Cat Shelter want to help alleviate some of the burden and keep families together this time of year.

Please ask for help to keep your babies home and if you can donate to Dog and Cat Shelter to help provide pet food for others, please be generous! It is one thing to weather tough times but to lose your best friend because of it is a heart break that many just cannot handle. Pets should not have to lose their home and beloved families and people need their pets to help with the isolation and depression that comes with the pandemic. As a community, we can pull together and stop this loss for our friends and neighbors.

The Second Chance Sheridan Cat Rescue has also received an abundance of cats needing homes during COVID. Please donate if you can to help our community Rescues and Shelters as they continue to provide care for needy animals in Sheridan County. The best place for your pet is with you during this difficult time so please reach out if you need assistance. If for any reason you must relinquish your pet, please call and make arrangements to drop it off at the Rescue or Shelter where the pet will be safe and warm until it can be re-homed.
