Buffalo PD prepares for Longmire

The Buffalo Police Department is preparing for one of Johnson County’s busiest weekends as Longmire Days begins tomorrow, Thursday, July 16.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, City of Buffalo Police Chief Sean Bissett said officers have been working with Longmire Days organizers to help ensure a safe experience for residents and the thousands of visitors expected to arrive in Buffalo.

At the 2020 United States census, the population of Johnson County was 8,447. Along with many longtime dedicated fans, Bissett said the continuing popularity of the books and television series on streaming platforms brings new fans each year. Thousands of visitors from all over the world will arrive in Buffalo as it transforms into the fictional town of Durant (the name of Buffalo in the Longmire universe) for the duration of Longmire Days. At the height of the popularity of the television series, the number of visitors to Longmire Days was more than triple that of the population of the City of Buffalo.  

Bissett said the primary focus of the department will be traffic control, crowd safety and maintaining a visible law enforcement presence throughout the celebration.
