SMH: The Helmsley Behavioral Health Center Opens

Sheridan Memorial Hospital has opened the Helmsley Behavioral Health Center, known as The Path, expanding access to mental health care for residents of Sheridan County and the surrounding region.

An open house was held in June to give the community an opportunity to tour the facility and see the results of years of planning and collaboration. The center brings outpatient, crisis stabilization and inpatient behavioral health services together under one roof in a welcoming environment designed to support healing.

Foundation Director of Philanthropy Liz Dearcorn and Director of Behavioral Health Brittany Goodvin appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss the milestone.

The facility will provide a continuum of behavioral health services through a phased opening. Outpatient psychiatric services have already relocated to the new building and are available to patients. Crisis stabilization services are expected to open later this summer, followed by inpatient services later this year.

Goodvin said hospital leadership and staff have spent years developing a behavioral health system that treats mental health with the same level of importance as physical health while providing patient-centered care before, during and after a crisis.

The multi-year project was driven by community feedback gathered through hospital surveys. Construction and renovation of The Path were made possible through community donations, grants and years of planning.
