Game and Fish Commission approves Antelope Migration Corridor to Governor’s designation
During its Sept. 9–10 meeting in Lander, the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission voted to recommend the full Sublette Antelope Migration Corridor for designation to Governor Mark Gordon, including the East of Farson and Red Desert segments.
The corridor, formally identified in March 2024, is used by one of Wyoming’s largest antelope herds, migrating 6 to 165 miles across five counties. Game and Fish based its recommendation on more than 20 years of research, including GPS collar data from over 500 animals, to better manage threats such as habitat fragmentation, roads and fencing, invasive grasses and habitat quality.
Game and Fish initially recommended designation of eight segments, holding back on the East of Farson and Red Desert areas due to limited threats and no identified bottlenecks. Director Angi Bruce stressed those areas could be designated in the future if conditions change.
After hearing public comment for and against, the Commission voted to advance the entire corridor to the Governor for consideration, calling the decision a win for both wildlife and stakeholders.
