Buffalo PD to Adhere to State, Local Laws on Tobacco Sales

The recent move by the federal government to set the age for purchasing tobacco products at 21 years of age won’t affect how the Buffalo Police Department deals with tobacco sales in the city. Yet.
In an interview with Sheridan Media, Buffalo Police Chief Jason Carder said the police department will enforce the current state and local laws concerning tobacco sales.
Current state and local laws make it illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to purchase, use, or possess tobacco products.
Some retailers in the area have chosen to adhere to the federal law while others have stayed with the state statute, and Carder said at this point, it really is up to the individual business to decide how they will handle tobacco sales.
Chief Carder said the police department will enforce the state and local laws unless there is a change in the state legislature for state law to come in line with the new federal law, and then adopted by the city and county.
