County to Update Comprehensive Land Use Plan
Sheridan County is preparing to update the county’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan, a long-term document that guides growth, development and resource conservation throughout the county.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, County Planner Mark Reid said the plan establishes goals for future land use while helping preserve agriculture, open spaces and the rural character of the Bighorn foothills. It also provides a guide to shape zoning regulations and development decisions.

To ensure community values are retained, Sheridan County works with the public while updating the plan as well as public organizations and government agencies to incorporate conservation priorities. In addition, the county and city jointly manage a separate planning area surrounding Sheridan to coordinate future growth and development. The City of Sheridan will take the lead on developing the joint plan but discussions involve both entities.
Reid said public involvement is critical to the updating process of both plans and going forward the county and city will alert the public to multiple events that will offer them opportunities to voice opinions, values and concerns.
