Wyoming Community Foundation Associate Director of Donor Stewardship Salvador Madrigal made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to speak on the Foundation’s “5 to Thrive” initiative, encouraging Wyoming residents to commit 5% of their estate to charitable causes that benefit their local communities.

Madrigal said the initiative promotes planned giving as a way to create lasting support for Wyoming communities.

Madrigal said even a small percentage of an estate can have a significant impact when invested as an endowed gift, helping address both current and future community needs. Donors can direct their gifts toward causes that are important to them, including education, the arts, youth programs, health care and community development.

According to Madrigal, the effort is driven by research conducted by the WCF alongside Laramie County Community College that shows approximately $24 billion in wealth is expected to transfer between generations in Wyoming over the next decade. By encouraging residents to designate just 5% of those assets for charitable purposes through estate planning, the initiative aims to keep a portion of that wealth invested in Wyoming communities through these permanent charitable funds.

The WCF works with donors, advisors and their own localized community boards throughout the Cowboy State to help direct those future gifts toward projects that support long term community development in local areas and across the state according to the donor’s wishes.
