According to Chris Vrba Marketing & Development Contractor at the Sheridan Community Land Trust, after a strong turnout and requests for additional opportunities to attend, SCLT is expanding its new Sheridan Railroad Historic District Walking Tour to three summer Saturday dates.

Led by SCLT History Program Manager Kevin Knapp, the guided tour will be offered on June 20, July 18, and August 15, with each tour beginning at 1 p.m. at Grinnell Plaza outside Sheridan City Hall.

The walking tour explores the people, industries, and landmarks that transformed Sheridan into an important railroad hub of the American West. Participants will travel approximately three-quarters of a mile through the historic district, uncovering stories of early railroad development, local entrepreneurs, and the lasting impact of rail transportation on the community.

“We’ve been thrilled by the interest in this tour,” Knapp said. “People have told us they want more opportunities to experience Sheridan’s railroad history, so we’re excited to add these additional Summer Saturday dates.”

The tour lasts approximately 45 minutes to an hour and follows sidewalks and paved surfaces through downtown Sheridan.

On the first tour, held on May 16, starting on Grinnell Plaza, Knapp said,

Several opportunities to sit and rest are available along the route.

The walking tour was developed with the help of extensive volunteer research conducted by Mickey Douglas and Jean Harm. SCLT is grateful for their many hours of work helping bring Sheridan’s railroad story to life.

The program is free and open to the public, though advance registration is encouraged.

Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather, wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring water.
