News ReleaseFriday, U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) sent a letter to U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Acting Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs Ronald Walters demanding answers after a scheduled Memorial Day service at the Cheyenne National Cemetery was not carried out as planned. In the letter, Lummis questioned why Wyoming military families were stood up on a day that is supposed to be dedicated to honoring American heroes.
Lummis stated in a media release that Wyoming’s military families deserve the utmost respect and dignity, especially on Memorial Day. She said these families traveled from every corner of the state to honor their loved ones and were completely disrespected and the Department of Veterans Affairs’ actions are unacceptable, and it owes these families an apology and explanation of what on earth happened. More than 100 people showed up on Memorial Day at the Cheyenne National Cemetery ahead of an advertised 11:00 a.m. Memorial Day observance to remember America’s fallen heroes. No representatives from the VA showed up and no explanation has been given.

This just sickens me to my core considering I’m married to a army veteran. I would have never in a million years thought that our warriors that have fought for this country and then died fighting for it would have been given such disrespect in my life. These men and women deserve the upmost respect and dignity as well as their families who stood behind them as they watched their husband’s, wife’s, sons, and daughters go off to other countries and protect this country of ours just so we can be free.
Finding out that these families got stood up by Department of Veterans Affairs and now they can’t even say anything to what happened nor even apologize to these families who drove from all over our state to come to this cemetery to see their loved one on a day that is ment to remember those that are serving, have served, and the ones that are no longer with us that sacrificed themselves to keep this country safe from harm.
Let me just say that I am so very sorry to those families that where disrespected on a day that was made to remember their fallen family members at the cemetery. I hope that the Department of Veteran Affairs apologizes and makes up for their mistake.

Another example of a failing government entity.
