Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey: The stakes can’t be any higher in the regular season than what they will be this weekend in the NA3HL Frontier Division.
The Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey team makes one last visit to Helena on Friday, for one game that will most likely decide the top seed for the upcoming playoffs.
The Hawks have a 2 point lead in the standings.
A loss would mean the team would have to hope for some help, because although there would be a 2-team tie for 1st, Helena has one more game remaining on their schedule compared to Sheridan.
The two teams split a 2-game head-to-head series in Helena 2 weeks ago, and Hawks Head Coach J.J. Sanataga says the team knows what to expect inside enemy territory.
Forward Dantae Hunziker says the Bighorns are a good opponent, but at this point in the season, Sheridan just needs to worry about themselves and not so much the opposition.
On Saturday, the Hawks visit Bozeman.
The top 4 teams at the end of the regular season make the playoffs and the Icedogs are currently on the outside looking in, being in 5th place.
Sheridan HS Nordic Ski: Sheridan will host a 2-day invitational this weekend on Cutler Hill.
Start times are 1pm tomorrow and 10am on Saturday.
Head Coach Falk Alicke says while some other teams have had problems getting enough snow to either practice or host a meet, Sheridan has rarely had that issue up in the mountains.
As for this season’s team, Coach Alicke says there’s not as many skiers compared to last year, but they’re more competitive.
This is the last meet before the state meet, which is scheduled for February 27th and 28th.
That meet was supposed to be held in Lander, but due to a lack of snow, it has been moved to Pinedale.
Sheridan County HS Wrestling/Basketball: There is a little bit of Thursday action going on.
The Sheridan High School wrestling teams are at Thunder Basin today for a boys and girls dual, while Tongue River is at the 2A Northeast Duals at Upton.
Arvada-Clearmont plays a girls and boys basketball double-header at home vs. Upton, starting at 6pm.
University of Wyoming Women’s Basketball: The Wyoming Cowgirls got it together and pulled off the upset last night at UNLV 82-72.
The long ball was the key, as UW hit 16 3’s in the contest..15 of which came from the top 3 scorers.
Melene Pedersen put in 26 points.
Henna Sandvik was 1 back at 25 and Jane Rumpf put in 20 points of her own.
The Brown and Gold are now 9-15 on the season and have a 6-9 record in the Mountain West Conference.
The team is back at home this coming Saturday to take on Boise State.
Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets won last night at home vs. Sacramento 122-116.
All teams are off this weekend for the All-Star games, which are being played at LA.
