Morning Sports: September 8, 2026
Sheridan HS Football: The Sheridan High School Football team scored all of their points in the first half and won easily at home vs. Cheyenne South 55-zip this past Friday.

That is win #57 in a row overall, which is still a Wyoming High School State Record and is the second longest active winning streak in the country.
It’s also home win #35 which is a separate State record.
The Broncs could get tested this Friday at Campbell County, which is a rematch of last year’s state championship game.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6pm.
Big Horn/Tongue River/Buffalo HS Football: Big Horn did not have any problems in a 55-zip win against 9-man Pine Bluffs.
Tongue River ended up taking it on the chin, losing at Thermopolis 47-13.
Conference play in 2A starts this week and first up is TR at BH in a Thursday night game, beginning at 7 o’clock.
Meanwhile, Buffalo lost their first game of the season 42-14 at Cody.
The Bison play their home opener this coming Friday against Green River.

Sheridan/Johnson County HS Volleyball: Sheridan went 5-1 this past weekend in the Gillette Invitational to place 3rd in the gold bracket.
The Lady Broncs are scheduled to play their home opener this coming Saturday vs. Riverton.
Tongue River went 3-3 at the same invitational to place 6th in the gold bracket.
The Lady Eagles travel to Rawlins to play in another invitational this weekend.
Big Horn was also at Gillette over the weekend.
The Lady Rams went 5-1 to win the silver bracket.
BH plays their home opener on Thursday against Pine Bluffs and hosts their own invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Arvada-Clearmont did not play their Friday game at home vs. Upton and lost on Saturday at home vs. Midwest.
The Lady Panthers are scheduled to play on Friday at Hulett, and on Saturday at the Wyo Classical Academy in Mills.
Buffalo made a trip to Gillette as well and went 1-4 in games played.
The Lady Bison are also going to Rawlins this weekend.
Kaycee lost their season opening contest at Hulett back on Friday.
The Lady Bucs next play Thursday at the Wyo Classical Academy, Friday at home vs. Meeteetse and on Saturday at Upton.

Sheridan/Johnson County HS Golf: Buffalo hosted a 2-day meet last week with all of the North-Central Wyoming teams participating.
Parker Rieger of Sheridan was 5th on the boys side, while Addison Bettinger of Buffalo won the girls competition.
This week Sheridan is at the 4A East Qualifying Meet at Gillette tomorrow and Thursday.
Tongue River and Buffalo will go to the 3A East Conference Meet in Douglas also tomorrow and Thursday, while Big Horn is at a 2-day meet on Friday and Saturday at Wright.
Sheridan HS Tennis: The Sheridan teams went a combined 4-0 in home duals on Friday vs. Cheyenne South and Torrington.
This coming Saturday is the home finale against both Thunder Basin and Campbell County.
Sheridan/Johnson County HS Cross Country: Eli Blakenbush and Joseph Gonda finished 1st and 2nd respectively at a Friday race in Spearfish, South Dakota, while Jaelin and Ellie Ruybal were 2nd and 4th in the girls race.
The Sheridan boys and girls both finished 1st in the team standings.
The Broncs and Lady Broncs are next scheduled to run on Saturday in Bozeman, Montana.
At the Buffalo Invite on Friday, Jace Townsend and Landon Pierson finished 2nd and 3rd respectively to help the Bison place 1st.
On the girls side, Ellie Farris finished 1st to help the Lady Bison place 4th.
Buffalo is next scheduled to run today at Belle Fourche, South Dakota.
Tongue River is traveling to a Friday meet at Douglas and Big Horn will join Sheridan at Bozeman.
Sheridan/Buffalo HS Girls Swimming and Diving: Both Sheridan and Buffalo were at the Natrona County Invitational this past weekend.
The Lady Broncs were second in the team standings, while the Lady Bison were third.
Sheridan will next swim in a Saturday meet at Kelly Walsh, while Buffalo will compete on Friday at Worland and on Saturday at Powell.
College Football: After scoring early in the 3rd quarter to only trail by 1 point, things fell apart for the Wyoming Cowboys after that, as they would lose their season opener, as well as the Bronze Boot at Colorado State 35-13.
Quarterback Tyler Hughes was 12 of 19 passing for 130 yards, plus he ran for the Pokes’ only touchdown of the game, but he was intercepted 3 times, and the offense was 0-for-8 on 3rd down conversions.
Erik Sandvik kicked 2 field goals.
The Brown and Gold are scheduled to play their home opener this coming Saturday against Northern Colorado.
Kickoff is scheduled for 2pm.
Meanwhile, once Montana State got going, they scored almost at will, in a 51-24 win in their home opener vs. Butler University.
Sheridan High School grad Dane Steel caught 2 passes for 52 yards, including a 29-yard touchdown, just before halftime.
Colson Coon got in on the running game with 7 carries for 29 yards.
The Bobcats are on the road this weekend against Nevada.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost 2 out of 3 games this past weekend at home vs. St. Louis.
On Friday, the bullpen gave up a 3-run home run in the top of the 9th inning, as the team lost 7-6.
Cole Carrigg hit a solo inside the park home run, and TJ Rumfield hit a solo shot of his own out of the park, but the team could not recover in the bottom of the 9th.
On Saturday, the Rocks won 10-7, but lost Sunday’s rubber game 10-8.
In that last game, Mickey Moniak provided a 3-run blast and Jake McCarthy hit a solo home run of his own, but it was not enough.
With that loss, Colorado was officially or mathematically eliminated from post season contention, making this the 8th year in a row the team will miss the playoffs.
There are 3 weeks remaining in the regular season and the only thing the Rockies can do now is try to avoid a 100-loss season.
The team currently has a record of 55-88 with 19 games to go, meaning they have to win at least 8 of them.
The Rocks were off yesterday and start a 3-game series today at the New York Yankees.
First pitch is scheduled for 5:05pm.
