Sheridan Hawks Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks hockey team is off to a 3-1 start on the 2024-25 season.
This past weekend the team swept a home and home series vs. Gillette, a team they had not defeated since March of 2021, thus ending a 24-game skid against the Wild.
One impressive stat from the weekend was that Sheridan’s penalty killing unit only allowed 1 goal in 16 tries and so far for the season, the unit has allowed only 3 goals in 28 tries.
Head Coach J.J. Santagata says it’s good to find this kind of strength within the team early in the season.
This weekend the Hawks will play a 2-game series at Cody, which is a team that went 0-47 last season, and is already off to an 0-4 start this season.
The puck drops at 7:05pm on both Friday and Saturday.
Sheridan HS Tennis: Sheridan is competing at the North Regional Tournament which starts today and runs through tomorrow at Natrona.
The event was originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday, but was moved up over concerns regarding the weather.
The State Tennis meet is scheduled to take place next week Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Gillette.
Wyoming High School State Golf 2024: The state meets are this Friday and Saturday.
Sheridan will compete at the 4A meet at Star Valley.
The Lady Broncs are the defending state champs and have won 2 of the last 3.
The Broncs last won it all back in 2020.
Big Horn and Tongue River will co-host the 2A State Meet at Kendrick Golf Course.
Competition is scheduled to begin at 10am on Friday and at 9am Saturday.
TR has won the boys state championship one time, back in 2006, while BH has never won it.
On the girls side, the Lady Rams won their only state championship in 2015, and the Lady Eagles won their only state championship, one year later in 2016.
University Of Wyoming Football: While it’s the final score that determines which team wins and loses, sometimes the stats can tell the story.
For the Wyoming Cowboys offense, it’s not a good one.
Out of 133 teams in the FBS, the Pokes have the second worst overall offense in the country, averaging just 201.7 yards per game.
UW only averages 3.27 yards of offense per play which is the worst, they have the 6th worst passing offense, averaging 114.7 yards per game, and the 14th worst rushing attack at 87 yards per game.
There’s a chance that some of those numbers could improve after this weekend.
North Texas, who is currently 2-1 on the season, has the 7th worst overall defense, giving up an average of 472 yards per game, and the 3rd worst passing defense, allowing 322.3 yards per game.
On the flip side, the Mean Green have the 11th best passing offense, averaging 328.7 yards per game.
Cowboy Head Coach Jay Sawvel says he has taken notice of what the opposition can do through the air.
Kickoff this Saturday at North Texas is scheduled for 5pm.
University Of Wyoming Basketball: The schedule is out for the UW men’s team.
The Cowboys have 30 games scheduled and will host the College of Idaho for an exhibition game on October 25th, and start the season on November 4th at home vs. Concordia-St. Paul.
The Brown and Gold will also play in the Cancun challenge just before Thanksgiving.

This season all Mountain West Conference men’s teams will play each other twice.
That has not been the case in past years, as teams would play 1 team only at home and another team only on the road.
As for the Wyoming Cowgirls, the conference portion of their schedule is available, but not the non-conference slate.
Mountain West Conference Losing Teams: Last week it was announced that Colorado State, Boise State, Fresno State and San Diego State would leave to join the Pac 12 beginning in 2026.
Several media reports say that the American Athletic Conference could be targeting Air Force.
Among the teams in the AAC include Army, Navy and North Texas to name a few.
Should the Falcons leave, that would put the Mountain West Conference on probation status football-wise, because the MWC would have fewer than the minimum of 8 teams required to be a recognized conference.
If that happens, the conference would have 2 years to get back to the 8-team minimum.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies won their 2nd straight game last night at home vs. Arizona 8-2.
Ezequiel Tovar and Hunter Goodman each hit solo home runs.
With the win, the Rocks have equalled last year win total at 59 and still have 10 more games to play in the season.
Colorado will try for a 3-game sweep today starting at 1:10pm.
