Sheridan College has announced the opening of a new exhibition featuring the work of Eliza Weber on Thursday, May 7, in the Edward A. Whitney Gallery. An artist talk and closing reception will be held at 4 p.m. Sept. 10.

According to the college, Weber’s work explores interconnectedness and materiality through a variety of mediums, including ceramics, paper, found objects and fibers. Her individual pieces and installations serve as abstract reflections of the world, influenced by domestic environments and environmental management. Spanning installation, decorative and functional forms, her work examines how objects, individuals and others occupy space.

Weber earned a Master of Fine Arts from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from University of Montana. She has completed residencies at Pottery Northwest in Seattle, Medalta in Canada, the Pottery Workshop in China and Open Air at the Flathead Lake Biological Station.

Her nonprofit experience includes serving as director of education at Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art and board service with the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts and the Ceramics Research Center. She currently serves on the NCECA Green Task Force and is a long-term resident at the Archie Bray Foundation.

“We’re excited to bring Eliza Weber’s work to campus and provide our students and community with the opportunity to engage with contemporary art in a meaningful way,” Sheridan College Academic Dean Dr. Sarah Jo Sinclair said. “Exhibitions like this enrich the educational experience and inspire creative exploration.”

The exhibition is free and open to the public. For more information about this performance or to see a full schedule of events, please click here.
