So in 2018 we could have greeted our visitors with a low and inviting 5% sales tax. Instead we re-imposed the 1% mandatory tax and extended the 4% tourism tax county-wide. The net effect was slapping our visitors with a very un-welcoming 10% Total tourism/sales tax. We voted to go from a 5% tax to a 10% tax. And now they’re about to raise it to 15%. Just as the entire tourism industry hangs in the balance. 15% of nothing will always be nothing. Higher taxes always hurt Everyone!! When will we learn?
