Mayor of Clearmont Chris Schock wants to get some projects planned and going out in the small Wyoming town.
Schock has been vocal about wishing to increase the population of the small town of approximately 150 people.
Located 40 miles miles out of Sheridan and approximately 30 miles from Buffalo, Schock has endorsed Clearmont as a “bedroom community.” A place where people could live and commute to work.
With only one convenience store, Clearmont doesn’t have the sales tax revenue of larger communities. Schock said almost 40% of the town’s budget depends on direct distribution allocations from the state. Allocations from Sheridan County’s capital facilities tax helps to fund Clearmont’s infrastructure and optional one percent tax also supports infrastructure and services.
To help fund one time capital projects, Schock is seeking as much in American Rescue Plan Act funding as he can garner support to receive.
According to the Wyoming Association of Municipalities, ARPA will deliver more than $130 million to Wyoming’s cities, towns and counties. The State of Wyoming has until Dec. 31, 2024 to obligate the ARPA funds and until Dec. 31, 2026 to spend the funds.
